The lack of regulation in aesthetic medicine is something that has always been of deep concern to the Aesthetic Training Academy, and we have continually been pushing for stricter rules and regulations to increase standards throughout the industry.
Whilst we know that quality in aesthetic training differs from different training academies we were horrified to see the shocking standards of training exposed during the BBC Documentary “Under The Skin: The Botched Beauty Business”. We won’t comment on any other training academies practices, however we wanted to reassure our delegates on our high standards of aesthetic training.
Firstly, the Aesthetic Training Academy is the first and only training academy registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS). We have been working together with HIS to improve standards and provide better quality care within aesthetic medicine. You can rest assured that we follow the high requirements set by HIS in regards to hygiene, policies and procedures, risk assessments, emergency drugs and so on. As we are registered with HIS, if you are unsatisfied about any of our policies or procedures, and feel uncomfortable to report directly to ATA, you are able to report to Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
An important fact that many people often forget is that Aesthetic Medicine is in fact a sub-speciality of Medicine. For this reason, we only train registered Doctors, Dentists and Nurses at the Aesthetic Training Academy. Doctors, Dentists and Nurses will have carried out years of prior learning in anatomy and pharmacology which give them the knowledge required to build upon to become an aesthetic practitioner.
Course Content
Our most popular courses at the Aesthetic Training Academy, Getting Started in Aesthetic Medicine and Advancing Skills in Aesthetic Medicine are both CPD Accredited. All of our courses at the Aesthetic Training Academy combine seminar learning with observation of treatment and supervised practice.
At the Aesthetic Training Academy, all of our courses are focused on facial anatomy, not a paint by numbers approach. Every individual is unique and should be treated as such, which is why we teach you how to carry out a thorough consultation and facial assessment before carrying out any procedures.
Getting Started in Aesthetic Medicine
We would recommend our Getting Started in Aesthetic Medicine course to those just looking to get into aesthetic medicine or those looking for a refresher course. As this is often the first exposure to aesthetic medicine for many delegates, in addition to understanding the indications for Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Fillers and how to perform them, the course will cover legal implications, accounting and practical considerations of aesthetic medicine. The course will also cover the potential complications of treatment and how to manage these should they arise. The Getting Started in Aesthetic Medicine course teaches delegates the foundation procedures that aesthetic practitioners typically start out performing including using Botulinum Toxin to successfully treat forehead lines, crows feet and frown lines and using hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for simple lip augmentation, treatment of fine lines, treatment of the nasolabial area and treatment of the mesolabial area.
Advancing Skills in Aesthetic Medicine
We would recommend that delegates practice the techniques and procedures learnt on the Getting Started in Aesthetic Medicine course for a minimum of year prior to undertaking our Advancing Skills in Aesthetic Medicine course.
One of the key features of the course is consultation and advanced facial assessment. This allows delegates to appreciate a full-face approach to facial rejuvenation. Throughout the course, we will discuss anatomy and physiology of the ageing face with particular attention to the midface, dermal filler bio-physiology, avoidance and management of complications and the use of hyaluronidase. The course will expand delegates knowledge of Botulinum Toxin to cover the treatment of the neck, the jawline, the nose and lip depressors. It will also show you how to use Botulinum Toxin to reduce masseteric bulk. We will also build on previous knowledge and experience with Dermal Fillers. We will cover rejuvenation of areas such as temples, cheeks, marionettes, jawline and chin.
Expert Masterclasses
We have designed a range of expert masterclasses to help further your knowledge and professional development. Our range of masterclasses are aimed at delegates with previous experience in Dermal Filler and Botulinum Toxin and focus on specific treatments or areas of the face. This fee includes all products used on the day.
Most importantly, upon completion of training, we are always only a phone call away. If you have any questions or concerns about patients or carrying out your treatments you can call our Head Office on 01698 852 093 or email at enquiries@ATAGlasgow.co.uk and speak to a member of the ATA team who will endeavour to help you.
